Sompo Japan Wins Inaugural Green Company of the Year Award
Sompo Japan was named “Green Company of the Year” at the 14th Asia Insurance Industry Awards (organized by Asia Insurance Review) ceremony held in Bali, Indonesia in October 2010. The "Green Company of the Year" award is a new category created this year for the Awards, which honor leading insurance companies in the Asia region.

This award was created for the first time for the 14th Asia Insurance Industry Awards, which were established by Asia Insurance Review to be held back-to-back with the East Asian Insurance Congress (EAIC)*, to recognize efforts in environmental stewardship.
- On Receiving this Award
Sompo Japan has won the award in recognition of “swiftly setting up the Department of Global Environment Office following the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 and since then continuously expanding its company-wide initiatives to reduce the environmental burden of its business activities”, “making significant contribution to
solving the challenges facing the Asian region, including weather index insurance in Thailand,” among other green initiatives.

In winning this award, Sompo Japan is pleased to be delivering a speech (scheduled) on the theme of “Adaptation to and Mitigation of Climate Change” at the 1st Climate Change Summit for Asia’s Insurance Industry, which will be held in Singapore in January 2011.
* The East Asian Insurance Congress (EAIC) is the largest international insurance conference held in the Asian region once every two years. The 25th meeting was convened in Bali, Indonesia in October 2010.
